Brief Introduction and History of GCD

" My love of building started at the age of 13 whilst constructing a home extension with my father, with only a three foot level and a DIY book. This sparked a desire which is still with me today - to exceed in construction and design. After finishing school, I started working for Mowlem’s as a land surveyor and road engineer where I gained my initial qualifications. Following a gap year in Australia, I applied for a surveyors role at a national building company where I designed and drew extensions. I quickly developed in this role which I loved, and still essentially do today, and became project manager. I built my first team of craftsmen around me and we successfully delivered people’s dream.

A couple of years later, I was head hunted to be a director at another company. Although smaller, the role was more complex and opened my eyes to the intricacies of running a successful business. Whilst still feeding my excitement of construction, I learnt how to run a company and deal with employees, clients and finances. At 30 years of age, I formed a partnership (Thomas & Green) with a former colleague. We started with small projects, later moving on to major refurbishments and new builds. On dissolving the partnership in 2003, Green County Developments was born and we never looked back. Beginning as just a team of four, our reputation started to evolve, our client base expanded and we grew year on year, becoming the successful family of quality craftsmen we are today.

My passion for design, detail, efficiency and honesty has created a company ethos of perfection which is brought to all projects - whether big or small - by a dedicated team, some of whom have been with us since the start of GCD. Over our twenty years, we have amassed a wealth of experience in nearly all areas and aspects of construction, and as we have gained more experience and confidence as a company our projects have become more bespoke, exciting and challenging, taking us in to the most prestigious areas of the south east.

We are proud to work on a recommendation basis from our many loyal customers, some of whom have been with us since our early days, and we have long standing and trusted relationships with other professionals within the construction industry. We believe our exceptional standards have been key in the success of gaining numerous awards within the property sector, an achievement of which we are hugely proud. We will continue to push the boundaries of building and design, always striving for perfection."
